What We Aim To Do
Mary Mackillop Outreach (MMO) offers training, recreation and education to people with a mental illness and/or a disability living in boarding houses, group homes or privately in Sydney's inner west. At MMO we aim to provide a quality program in alliance with people living with a mental illness and/or disability, enabling them to explore and fulfill their potential and to improve their overall quality of life. We aim to reduce the vulnerability of marginalised older people in our community and to provide support for individuals to participate in living skills programs, educational programs, pre-vocational courses and recreational and health promotion activities of their choice.
We also aim to foster an inclusive community attitude with respect to residents living in boarding houses and group homes by providing opportunities for these people to be recognised for their valuable contribution to our society.
MMO aims to creat opportunities for individuals to assimilate into the community and to provide the training and support to facilitate this integration.
Lastly, we aim to provide friendship and support to facilitate social interaction with other members of the community.
St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies)
The St Vincent de Paul Society is one of the most successful and wide reaching welfare agencies in Australia. Like most non-profit organisations it is dependent on the contribution of volunteers. The St Vincent de Paul Society has approximately 40,000 volunteers across Australia. With less than 3000 paid staff, it is clear that volunteers play an integral part in the functioning of the society.
